Excursion to the Celje Basin

We organized an excursion to the Celje basin for seventh-grade students. We went to the Celje basin by bus and visited the princely town Celje, Šempeter in the Savinjska valley and Pekel Cave.

In the Provincial Museum of Celje, we saw an exhibition about prehistory and the Counts of Celje, thus shedding additional light on the material we are dealing with this school year in history. Among other things, we saw the oldest needle in the world. The Roman necropolis with its tombs dedicated to rich members of Roman families was also very interesting. We heard many Roman fables and recognized their depiction on tombs. We also visited the Pekel cave and went on a forest learning trail with a forester, on which we solved worksheets related to the local forests and life in them.

Excursions are a different way of acquiring new knowledge and getting to know Slovenia and its regions, because there the students “live” see many phenomena that we normally talk about in class.
